The reimagined kitchen at Cockle Bay Residence embraces the home’s original curvature, transforming a challenging layout into a feature of beauty and function. From the outset, our intention was to honour the architecture rather than tame it, creating a space that feels both practical and effortlessly aligned with the home’s natural flow.
Instead of hiding the curved walls behind standard cabinetry, we chose to celebrate them. Custom curved cabinetry fronts soften the space and enhance the original form, while tall storage along the right-hand wall maximises functionality without interrupting the gentle sweep of the corner — now home to a warm and inviting breakfast and coffee nook.
We were intentional in balancing storage with openness, ensuring the kitchen never felt heavy. Curved overhead cabinets in milled veneer echo the organic lines of the room, adding subtle texture and movement. A refined stone splashback transitions seamlessly into tiled walls where the architecture required a shift — a design solution that feels effortless and cohesive.
At the seating area, continuity was key. By lowering the seating to align with the main benchtop height, we opened the space visually and created a more connected, communal feel. The milled veneer detailing continues here, mirroring the overhead elements and bringing a sense of unity across the entire kitchen.
A palette of soft blues, whites and warm timber tones reflects the home’s coastal setting, while finger tiles and linear textures introduce depth and craft. The result is a kitchen that feels calm, inviting and quietly expressive.
The Cockle Bay Residence kitchen is a testament to embracing what makes a space unique. By leaning into the home’s architectural character and working closely with our clients, we’ve crafted a kitchen that enhances daily living while remaining true to the spirit of the house.
